BigG and I have claimed Mischief Maker as one of our favorite red wines. Now if you’re a wine connoisseur and particularly hung up on details like never breaking the white wine with poultry rule, I’m not talking to you because we’re not in the same league. I like cheap wine that tastes good; those are really my only criteria. At less than US$15 per bottle, Mischief Maker meets the cost criterion but the taste is what keeps me faithful. Mischief Maker is a flavorful, slightly sweet red that works well on its own or as a complement to dark chocolate. (I’d imagine Mischief Maker would even be nice chilled—egad!—for sipping on a hot summer day, but I haven’t had a chance to test that theory yet.) Because it’s sweeter than most cabernets I’ve had, Mischief Maker might not be the girl for you if you’re looking for the perfect wine to pair with a slab of beef. But if you’re looking to hang out with your hubby in a big bubble bath or in bed on a Sunday afternoon and just want a pleasant, crisp wine with a fruity finish, Mischief Maker’s your gal. —Linda
